Top Priority:

Upgrade the infrastructure facilities to international standards to handle five times the present traffic and to accommodate wide body aircrafts flying to international destinations. Coimbatore, the second largest city of Tamil Nadu is an industrial hub of the country. It is also the gateway to tourist centers like Ooty,Kodaikanal and Kerala via Palghat.

Coimbatore airport caters to the needs of nearby districts, Tirupur, Salem, Erode and Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu and some districts of Kerala. A large volume of exports from both Industrial sector and Agriculture sector is being carried out from Coimbatore and these cities. Eighteen international flights and 280 domestic flights a week are in operation through Coimbatore Airport.

There are over 14 lakh people traveling annually from and to this Airport.About 7000 tonnes of cargo per year is handled here. The Airport needs to be developed so that more flights, particularly to destinations outside India can be operated.
