RAAC in association with Siruthuli and Kolam had taken up the project of providing battery operated vehicles for waste collection in Paanimadai Panchayat. RK Photo Centre had sponsored two battery operated vehicles and also bins and bags.
Waste colection was started from 700 houses that were on the hillocks in the area, covering three wards. In the absence of a proper waste collection system, residents used to dump the waste in the open area, which reached the Anaikatti forest, thus affecting the environment. They would use the battery operated vehicles for the purpose waste collection and disposal. As part of the project we plan to educate the residents on the importance of waste collection and disposal, for which bags and bins were handed over in order to ensure source segregation of waste at home.
