The housing board settlements at Keeranatham faced a significant challenge related to waste disposal. The problem was exacerbated by the practice of dumping unsegregated waste on the roadside, which not only caused environmental issues but also had negative impacts on the aesthetics and overall well-being of the community. Recognizing the gravity of the situation and the need for a solution, RAAC joined forces with Bosch, a prominent multinational engineering and technology company. In a commendable display of corporate social responsibility (CSR), Bosch committed to addressing the waste disposal problem by allocating a substantial amount of Rs. 12.86 lakhs from their CSR funds for this initiative.
To address the waste disposal issue systematically, the project involved a multi-faceted approach. One of the key strategies implemented was “door to door canvassing.” This approach likely entails community outreach, where representatives or volunteers from RAAC and Bosch eng age with residents of the K eer anatham housing boar d settlements. They educate residents about the importance of waste segre ga tion and p roper disposal practices. This step is crucial in changing the behavior of r e siden ts and encouraging them to actively participate in waste segregation at the source. The efforts are ongoing and that the waste disposal situation was being actively tackled.
