Roads

The Ring roads and more than 100 scheme roads planned in the Master Plan of 1994 should be formed. All Highways passing through Coimbatore are to be converted as six-lane roads till the next major town. Perur and Maruthamalai roads to be widened as 4 lanes.

There are about 1.5 million registered vehicles in the district as on 2013 and, more than 1 lakh vehicles are registered every year. Coimbatore is centrally located, and the major cities Tirupur, Pollachi, Mettupalayam and Palghat are within a radius of 40 kms in 4 directions. The city is growing at a rapid pace. The expanding economic activities and consequently the transport requirements are putting enormous stress on the existing road infrastructure.

Ring roads and more than 100 scheme roads were planned in the 1994 Master Plan and were not implemented so far. The following roads will meet the growing population partially, reduce heavy traffic congestion and facilitate the peripheral development of the city.
